This is a strong usability improvement and aligns well with reducing friction in high-frequency recruiter workflows.
From a UX perspective, allowing users to configure the visibility and order of applicant list filters would significantly improve scan efficiency, cognitive load, and task speed, particularly in high-volume hiring scenarios where recruiters rely heavily on filtering to prioritise candidates.
Key UX-focused considerations:
- Progressive disclosure: The “More” interaction is a good pattern, configurability should enhance it without overwhelming users. Prioritising commonly used filters upfront will reduce unnecessary clicks.
- Personalisation vs consistency: Users should be able to tailor their filter set, but there should be sensible defaults based on role or workflow to avoid decision fatigue for new or infrequent users.
- State persistence: Filter configurations should persist across sessions to create a predictable and stable experience.
- Discoverability: The ability to customise filters should be easy to find and understand (e.g., clear affordance or “customise filters” entry point), not hidden within the interface.
- Feedback and control: Users should have confidence in what filters are applied and visible—clear visual indicators and easy reset options are important.
- Edge case handling: Ensure critical system or compliance-related filters remain accessible and are not unintentionally buried through customisation.
Overall, this enhancement has strong potential to improve workflow efficiency, reduce interaction cost, and increase adoption of filtering functionality, provided the balance between flexibility and simplicity is well managed.
